Autism Spectrum and the Classroom

School can be difficult for children with Autism for so many reasons and the difficulty increases each year. Language is an essential component to being successful in the classroom as you have to both understand and communicate with others. In addition, language is essential to forming social relationships and maintaining them. This is all before academics come into play.

Another essential skill area is called learning to learn skills. These skills are the underlying skills that you need in order to learn. These are skills such as raising your hand, standing in line with others, waiting your turn, etc… Without these skills, it is difficult to be successful in a school environment.
